| How Sophie Miller Is Made
1. Sophie Miller uses fine jewelry manufacturing techniques and skilled artisans. Where ever possible, she makes sure that the stones are hand cut and that the metal is hand polished. She ensures that the “gem” is hand set or wax set, just like fine gold and platinum jewelry is set. Every piece is closely inspected, and Sophie Miller accepts only the finest quality.
2. Sophie Miller substitutes sterling silver for platinum and gold, but to give it the same look, she has her artisans plate the silver with rhodium, exactly like most fine jewelry made in white gold and platinum.
3. She substitutes cubic zirconium (CZ) for diamonds, but she will only use CZs that are of “good make” (well cut) like a fine diamond.
4. Sophie Miller looks for the closest faux stone available in color from both simulated and created gemstones to achieve the perfect look. In many cases she uses lab created sapphires and rubies grown in perfect colors of pink, red, yellow and blues. These created gemstones have the same physical, chemical and optical properties of the gemstones occurring naturally in nature.
5. To enhance her jewelry, Sophie Miller uses another Fine Jewelry technique –she uses pink gold, yellow gold and black rhodium plating behind the stones just as the finest manufacturers of designer diamond and gemstone jewelry do!
6. All Sophie Miller jewelry is lead free and compliant with California Prop 65 and all US metal laws.
Because of her attention to Fine Jewelry details, Sophie Miller has created a line that allows all women the ability to afford the luxury of buying and wearing beautiful jewelry. CZ jewelry so beautiful, it fools the eye.
Product Information
Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is the most widespread and inexpensive simulated diamond on the market today.
CZ is available in a spectrum of beautiful colors: white, canary, champagne, peridot, pink, purple, lavender, olive, orange, garnet,. and black.
CZs are durable in jewelry, but are not as hard as a diamond.
All Sophie Miller product is lead free and compliant with California Proposition 65.
CZs weigh approximately 65% more than diamonds. Therefore, while a 6.5mm round diamond should weigh about 1.00 carat, the same size CZ will weigh about 1.65 carats.
The emerald in the Sophie Miller collection is a “simulated” emerald. “Simulated” means that this stone looks similar to a real emerald, but has does not share any common properties with the real stone.
The Ruby and Sapphire used in the collection are “Synthetic” or “Created” stones. Our Synethic Ruby and Synthetic Sapphires are man-made in a laboratory, but they have the same physical, chemical and optical properties of the real rubies and sapphires found in nature.
All Sophie Miller product is lead free and compliant with California Proposition 65
Everything in the line is either sterling silver or brass with rhodium plating wp (the white plating), 14k gold plating ((GP) 14k pink gold plating ((OP) , brown gold plating or black rhodium (BP) plating. (RP) denoted two tone plating of rhodium and gold plate. The line consists of 3 types of stones. (Brass manufactures just like the sterling silver or gold in the lost wax process.)
Cubic Zirconia.

The technical definition by law of a synthetic stone (also called legally created Sapphires/ synthetic Ruby) is that the stone must have the same chemical, physical and optical characteristics as its natural counterpart.
The color codes for the Synthetic stones are as follows:
Y1.5 Light created pink sapphire
Y2 Med created pink sapphire
Y3 Bright created pink sapphire
Y5 Created ruby (ruby is the red color of corundum, all other colors are called sapphire.)
Y113 Dark Blue created sapphire
Y46 Plum created sapphire also used as it is close to the color of alexandrite, but would have to be referred to as simulated alexandrite. It does not change color like Alexandrite. See definition of simulated below.
Y120 Ceylon blue created sapphire
Y135 green blue created sapphire. Color of Blue Zircon, would be simulated if called that, also the color of Caribbean Blue…which is a color of Quartz, Blue Zircon, Apatite.
YOP Synthetic Opal
YOB Black Onyx
1. Simulated color stones
A simulated color stone means that it appears similar to its natural counterpart, but has nothing else in common with the natural stone. You can legally call any stone simulated, if it looks somewhat similar to the real thing. This is why you could call canary cz simulated canary diamond… etc.
Color codes for simulated color stones:
GGR Simulated emerald.
G32 Simulated tanzanite
G106 Simulated sky blue topaz
G108 Simulated Swiss topaz
G34 Simulated dark blue sapphire (darker than synthetic saph)
GST Simulated brown diamond
G5 Simulated ruby (much oranger than synthetic ruby)
G135 Simulated Apatite, or blue zircon
YTU Simulated Turquoise
YCA and YCOO Simulated red coral
